NNRD has been a loyal customer of Trailned for many years, with the first Knapen trailer purchased in 2009. They specialize in waste management and are active in the Friesland, Groningen, and Drenthe regions. Their activities include collecting, sorting, and recycling various types of waste from the region. In their diverse fleet, there are eight versatile Knapen moving floor trailers that cover about 130,000 km annually.

Indispensable trailers
We spoke with Jan Kuipers, who has been working in the waste industry for over 30 years. Since 2017, he has been operationally responsible for NNRD’s branches in Harlingen, Drachten, and Groningen.

What began more than 25 years ago with 1 compactor truck has now grown into a fleet of many different vehicles. From hook lift trucks to trailers specially designed for hazardous waste, compactor trucks, and Knapen moving floor trailers. Last year, the 2 newest Knapen moving floor trailers were added. Jan proudly states that the orange NNRD trailers have become a familiar sight in their region’s streetscape!
Large volume and safe unloading
The advantages of working daily with Knapen’s moving floor trailers are that we can transport a large volume and always unload safely. This includes indoor situations such as a hall where height is limited. The volumes transported with a moving floor trailer cannot be loaded with a tipper, let alone unloaded safely. Safety is important, and with 4 or 5 loading and unloading operations per day, the choice for a Knapen moving floor trailer is quickly made.

Various loads
What we transport with our Knapen moving floor trailers varies. Mainly voluminous waste such as wood, plastic, foils, and construction & demolition waste, but also compost, peat, and wood chips. This waste is then processed into raw materials for new products.
When we transport wood chips, we load up to 22 tons. With construction and demolition waste, the trailer is often loaded to maximum capacity. The built-in meters allow drivers to check how much weight has been loaded.

Long lifespan
We have good experiences with Knapen trailers, both in terms of maintenance and lifespan. Our oldest Knapen trailer is from 2014 and is still being used extensively. However, good maintenance is important for a long lifespan.
For maintenance, there is a support point in Drachten which is extremely convenient for us. Our own workshop also has materials in stock to perform minor maintenance or simple repairs. For major maintenance or overhauls, the trailers go to Knapen Service in Deurne.
To preserve the trailers, our drivers are responsible for daily cleaning and keeping the trailers tidy. What you keep clean continues to work well.

You can unload the entire cargo with one push of a button, and that’s really wonderful, that’s what it’s all about. I used to drive a tipper for a while, but in my opinion, what tips is not good. Furthermore, a Knapen trailer just has a beautiful appearance, especially the rear with the bumper is very nicely designed.
